The web interface has evolved over the years from the original NFUSE product Citrix was using in 2000. Today, the web interface server is a required component of both XenApp and XenDesktop unless you are using the new Storefront Server which is not part of the A20 objectives.
With XenApp, no matter how you make you connection, either via the browser or from the Citrix Receiver direct the connection will go through the web interface. the web interface will authenticate you and communicate with the XenApp XML brokers, the session controllers, to connect you to the most suitable XenApp server.
The Web Interface version 5.4 can be installed onto Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and above, we will install it on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Once installed, for this video, we will configure the basic settings of a web site, to show how quickly this can be enabled. In later lessons we will look at the WI in more detail. We will then install the Citrix Receiver Enterprise onto the windows 7 pc. This can be used with both the services site and the web site.
