Installing the Puppet Master on openSUSE 11.4

The open source Puppet Server allows for centralized configuration of your Linux servers and desktops though “Puppet Policies” or “manifests”. These manifests , designated with the .pp suffix to their file name can send out standard configuration files, start services and install software. This becomes your central management console for your server management. Of course Puppet is free and open source unlike many other management suites. In this first video we will look at installing the puppet-server on openSUSE 11.4. We need to then set up the correct ownership of the puppet files and create the puppet file server configuration if we would like to allow central management of configuration files through puppet. With that in place we use the local puppet client on the server to apply test polices for files, services and install packages like nmap.
